Celebrating Our Graduates Of 2022 (And Their Route To Success)

We’re celebrating more than 300 of our delegates who graduated this month having just completed their one-year Elevate Talent training programme to help steer and direct their career in line with their desires.

It’s so rewarding for us as a team to see these talented women realise how much power they have to secure promotion (or a sideways career move that interests them) by consistently making a few simple changes.

Making change doable

Because we know that our female delegates are already busy in their careers, we pride ourselves in sharing why following a certain strategy (that we teach) is important, and then we provide straightforward ways to implement the relevant skills.

Our research shows that if you ask someone to make 20 tactical changes every month, it can feel overwhelming and those changes will soon drop off the to-do list, whereas making two to three changes on a regular basis will help that person to move the needle significantly over time.

Although we have a programme of topics to cover, we regularly run polls so that we can tailor our training to the needs of our existing delegates. This enables them to build the knowledge, understanding, skills, confidence and capability to progress their careers without burning out.

Why developing a winning mindset pays off

We’ve recently completed a session on how to cultivate a winning mindset (see our earlier blog Why A Growth Mindset Helps You Stand Out And Accelerate Your Career) during which we explored the abundance versus scarcity mindset. One of the examples we shared, which helped everyone relate to its impact, was the way in which people stockpiled loo roll during the first phase of the Covid-19 lockdown. Arguably, whilst the media initiated the “there won’t be enough loo roll” panic, people who bought into that fear perpetuated it by buying so much that it was in scarce supply (albeit temporarily).

This is a perfect example of how it pays to rise above the fear and adopt a mindset of abundance and resilience where you don’t just “think positively”, you find your point of power and take action. 

You have the power to progress your career

Motivational writer William Arthur Ward* said: “The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails**.”

This is a philosophy we embrace and teach because we have seen first-hand the negative consequences of worrying about situations instead of strategising and taking action. We have seen what happens when smart women take a back seat and hope that the fact that they’re putting in the hours and doing a great job will secure them the promotion they’ve been hoping for (it won’t; see Why Strategic Thinking Will Help You Progress Your Career Faster for a full explanation).

The only way to look back on your career with a sense of fulfilment is to become very clear on what you want to achieve and why, assess what’s holding you back, get the right support (train with us and/or find a mentor or sponsor), develop a winning mindset, create a strategy, implement the tactics and routinely review your progress.

Why knowledge alone isn’t power

It’s often said that knowledge is power,  but knowledge is only power if you know how to use it and take action. At Elevate Talent we champion your progress throughout your training so that you stay on track and catalyse your success.

A poll carried out at the end of August’s sessions shows how important it is to know the mindsets that improve performance, and focus on the one that is most important for you right now. As you can see from the results of the poll, all five mindsets we shared resonated with our female delegates, who are now committed to building a growth mindset, taking an abundance approach, demonstrating their grit, being realistic optimists, and finding solutions to the challenges they face.
