Finding Your Epic Podcast: Season 2 - Episode 2 - EPIC Boundaries

Welcome to the Finding Your EPIC® podcast.

In this episode, host Jacqueline Frost talks to Karen Jones, Director Europe Marketing Immunodiagnostics at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Karen also runs a 12-week women’s coaching program. Despite her impressive academic background—including a PhD and postdoctoral research at Harvard—Karen faced self-doubt transitioning from academia to biotech and commercial roles, each time battling an inner voice of inadequacy. After being made redundant when her second baby was eight weeks old, she started her own company, offering biotech start-ups a combination of scientific expertise and marketing skills.

Returning to corporate life, she struggled with overwork and burnout due to the shift from being her own boss to navigating a large organisation. Realising this was unsustainable, Karen sought coaching to address her limiting beliefs, set boundaries, and prioritize well-being. Implementing these changes led to promotions and a leadership role where she now empowers her team, emphasises well-being, and supports other women.

Karen concludes by sharing a quote from Brené Brown:

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It’s the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”
